Last week Google had their developer conference in San Francisco, CA and among other things, one statement bent my ear.

“Summer Of ‘09 Phone War update: By year’s end, there will be at least 18 phones on the market worldwide based on the Android operating system.”

I feel this not only has implications for small and medium sized businesses, but large companies as well. It’s not so much the Android O/S in it self, but a nifty little app that allows consumers to scan UPCs and search for a better price geographically (using their gps capabilities) and across the web. This is not going to be huge impact at first as not everyone is going to swarm to the new phones, but it should be a warning sign to where the power is shifting. Consumers are having more power than ever and that could spell bad news for any companies that is not unique or bases a majority of their sales on products that could be called “commodities” (books, bikes, clothes, electronics, etc.)

The app is made by Shop Savvy and the demo video is below
