With all new forms of communication, there is always push back from early adopters. They typically don’t want any interference from marketers trying to disrupt their line of communication. Well, here we are. Social media has been adopted. Even Oprah is using twitter. Social media is here to stay. Here is the good news early adopters; advertising for the first time is highly targeted. No longer will users have to wait through irrelevant advertising that wastes your time. Now advertising is directly associated with your interests. continue
According to eMarketer’s recent blog post and a study done by TNS, Word-Of-Mouth media is still the most trusted source for information. Second place goes to internet news followed by newspapers in third. Year over year when stats like this come out, there is always the question of what advertisers are doing to harness this power. It seems that advertisers that are getting the message are using social media to spread creative content virally. One of the best underutilized tools for WOM is Facebook’s Page advertising. Companies have a huge advantage with this tool because: 1. It’s cheap on a CPM and CPC stand point. 2. If anyone on facebook that is your friend is also a fan of the advertising page, it will say so in the ad. (example: you become a fan of Ford, and a friend of yours likes cars, an ad will show in your friend’s browsing showing you are a fan of Ford and a short message about one of Ford’s products) 3. It’s highly measurable. continue
